Manohla Dargis is by far my favorite movie reviewer at the
New York Times, if not my favorite movie reviewer working today. I think she comes closer than anyone to Pauline Kael, with her wide ranging and idiosyncratic taste and way with a catty but insightful phrase. Take today's review of
Alpha Dog: "Alpha Dog" has much the same entertainment value you get from watching monkeys fling scat at one another in a zoo or reading the latest issue of Star magazine."
