Messy Apartment

Here is a picture of my apartment- it is worse in reality. Getting ready for the show took a lot of time, and now I don't even know where to start. It'll be better eventually, right?

Check out the website for the show, Fauns and Shackles it's still a work in progress.

Cat on Bose Radio

Audrey's skittish nature and smokey coloring make her hard to photograph. Neilson recently managed to get some shots that highlight her beauty, however. They also illustrate her penchant for perching on my Bose alarm clock. (One of her other favorite places to sit is my I-Book. Apparently, she has a penchant for sleek, white overpriced electronics.)

Anders update

Sarah sent this update on Anders today.

Well as some of you know, Anders ended up with another ear infection but he is rapidly improving on his antibiotics. He went to daycare yesterday and they said he was playful all day. He also took an unheard of 1 1/2 hour nap. When I picked him up they asked me to start bringing solid food for him. He was on the lap of one of the women who works in his room while she was feeding another child and twice he put his hand right into the other child's bowl and smeared the food all over his face and licked it off his hand. They said "we think he is ready for food". We have been feeding him twice a day at home but I guess he wants to be like the big kids at school. He has a big boy high chair now too and he loves to sit in it and play with his helicopter and race car. He also likes to bang his spoon on the tray.

Susan B. Anthony Conference

I will be giving a paper next week at "Susan B. Anthony & the Struggle for Equal Rights: A Women's History Conference," held in honor of the centenial of Anthony's death. My paper is entitled, "A Tale of Two Harriets: Harriet Hosmer, Harriet Jacobs, and the Complex World of Nineteenth-Century Reform." Eventually all of the papers will be available online through the University of Rochester website.

After Party

After the opening, we went to John's to celebrate and, of course, eat. John's is a great old-school Italian restaurant on East 12th Street. It was loud and crowded, but also tasty and fun.

Opening

At long last, the promised pictures from the opening. They are a little fuzzy, but you get the idea. The show was a big success and there is talk of taking it on the road.

Installation--part 2

Yesterday, Jody and Cathy finished installing Fauns and Shackles. It looks amazing. Look for pictures of the opening tomorrow.

Installation

Yesterday, Jody, with some help from Calvin, Neilson, and me, began installing Fauns and Shackles. Jody worked non-stop, but the rest of us found time to eat pizza, drink beer, and talk about V is for Vendetta and the Sopranos.

Preparations

Yesterday, Jody and I painted the gallery where Fauns and Shackles: An Homage to Harriet Hosmer will be. It went well, although we both got a little woozy from the fumes. The walls are now a beautiful icy grey. Also--it was Jody's birthday!

Cats I Know--Walter

Walter lives downstairs for Neilson, with Nick and Kate. He is what we call a BFK--a Big Fat Kitty. At this point he may be bigger than Elvis, although it is pretty much a toss up. Walter is incredibly social and craves human contact. If Nick and Kate are out, he pops out of his cat door when he hears us in the hall, looking like "Hey, how ya doing, let's hang out." He is always trying to get into Neilson's apartment, although Mao is not too happy about this. (Recently there has been some signs of detente, and Neilson spied them sleeping on his bed at the same time, albeit on opposite ends.)

Although he looks like bruiser, Walter only likes to be pet gently--no rough scratches for him. He is just a big softie at heart.

Happy Birthday Trish

Today is the birthday of Trish--known to some of us as Mom. (Anders hasn't decided what he is going to call her yet.) Hers is the first of many March birthdays. Have a great day--and year!

Anthrax Part 2

As As Iwrote last week, the New York City man diagnosed with Anthrax lives directly across the street from me. Apparently today is the day the authories are cleaning out his apartment. I arrived home to find the block barricaded and lots of scary looking trucks words like "strike team" and "hazerdous materials" painted on their sides. A large machine seems to be pumping something out of the "infected" building. There are also men in white suits with hoods, just like in science fiction movies. When I was taking these pictures, I kept expecting a man in a dark suit to take my camera away from me, and say "I'm going to need that Maam."
