I thought this
article about how smart babies are and how they learn was really interesting and I liked the author's conclusion that babies just be allowed to play. And yet it also seems like it shouldn't be that surprising if you have ever paid any attention to babies.

Sonja read this and she completely agrees; she says she needs to be free to explore anything she wants and she especially likes glasses, cell phones, cameras and computers. Most especially, she likes very focused personal conversation. She doesn't want any new "educational" toys. Yuk! She does like TV though.
All of Mom's comments regarding Sonja are true. Plus, despite my obvious bias, it was our general plan of action with Anders and he appears to be doing ok. Anders' current preK has a simialr philosophy about play based education for preschool (as opposed to instituting memorization exercises and worksheets in the 3-4 year old population). We generally agree but many parents are pulling their kids to put them in more rigorous and structured learning environments. I predict early burnout. One caveat, these are the words of a mother who allows her son to wear the same pair of pjs to school (baseball uniform) multiple days in a row because he is a Colorado Rockies All Star player.
Aunt Mary would be proud Sarah.
Well, obviously Anders is a Colorado Rockies All Star and needs to wear his uniform. Although it is impressive how he fits in his baseball career between fighting fires, playing soccer, and taking care of Homar. (And I second Kym's comment).
