What is happening at The University of Tennessee?

This article on the crazy machinations of denying a female anthropologist tenure at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville is long but worth a quick perusal. It sounds more like a conspiracy story than real-life should, with FBI and Homeland Security investigations, reports to the local police about a "hysterical woman," accusations of uncollegiatlity because she brought sexual harrassment of another employee to the attention of the administration, unidentifiable and uncollaborated student complaints that she might be building a bomb because she had them read about bombs and terrorism in classes about war and the impact of nuclear weapons on societies. Makes me look forward to finishing up this dissertation so I can go out and fight these battles myself.
