Project Runway on the front page of the NY Times?

Much as I like this show, I think it is a little weird that there is a picture of the contestants in the new season of Project Runway on the front page of the Times- well at least online.

Omar Little and President Obama

The president has said his favorite show is The Wire and his favorite character is Omar Little. (Not news- here is a news article from during the primary). I'm sure I've already said it here, but I can't resist repeating it- he is a BMCC grad! (Michael K. Williams, that is).

The Fashion Show

Did anyone else watch the first episode of The Fashion Show- Bravo's knock-off of Project Runway with Isaac Mizrahi?

I love Isaac Mizrahi, but wow, almost all of those clothes were really bad, at least I thought so.

Stringer Bell on The Office!

Actor Idris Elba, who played drug lord Stringer Bell on The Wire, is on The Office as Steve Carell's boss for six episodes. Here's an interview with him on NPR. (Listen to his Brit accent!) Here's the episode on Hulu.

Was Kenley treated unfairly?

I love the Slate Political Gabfest (as does Molly), and this week one of the guests, Hanna Rosin, talked about toggling between the last debate and the Project Runway Finale, as I did. Her main point was that bratty Kenley got treated differently than the equally obnoxious men in previous seasons.

I don't think she should have won, but I do think there is no doubt that she was treated differently than the guys. Read Rosin's post on Slate's XX Factor.

I love this show and was happy to see it win.

I am embarrassed by how much I enjoy watching this show. Even this season when the designers are not that good and complain constantly.

What does everyone think about the exit of Terri and Blayne? Suede (yes, his name is Suede and he talks about himself in the third person) is still there designing boring and poorly constructed clothing. And he is not the only one!

Why did they pick this group? Were the last two groups too talented and professional? Maybe that makes for bad reality tv.

High TV Ratings for Democratic Convention

This convention was the most-watched of either party since Nielsen began measuring convention ratings in 1960.

Obama's speech had 39.3 million viewers. Not quite as many as watched Michael Phelps win his last race, but more than watched the Olympic opening ceremony.

Finally Keith is off Project Runway

That guy really drove me crazy. I couldn't stand how he kept talking about his "art" and his "conceptual" and "progressive" fashion and how hard it is to be "progressive" in Salt Lake City. If its so hard, move.

Here is an interview with the aufed designer- he seems even more irritating than he did on the show. Though yelling at his model for sitting down was pretty bad.

Am I overreacting?

Is it just me

or did the Daily Show seem a little off its game while covering the Democratic Convention. I didn't watch all the coverage, but that I did see didn't seem that funny. Maybe it would have been better if if could have been live.

Beach Volleyball- Will It Ever End?

Why does beach volleyball get more coverage than any other sport in the Olympics? (why am I asking?) And why does it go on and on- will it ever end? The massive number of swimming events are over, and yet there are still more beach volleyball games.

Padma Lakshmi sighting!

While buying OJ and cough drops for my sore throat at the local Duane Reade on Avenue B, I saw Padma Lakshmi of Top Chef! Top Chef is my second favorite reality tv show. (Actually, it is the only one I watch besides Project Runway and Iron Chef.)

She graciously smiled back as I gawked.

I am so grateful that the writer's strike is just a memory now- Thursday evening now has The Office, Ugly Betty and Lost (which continues to be really good this season).

On another note- what's up with Spike's hats on Top Chef? They remind me of Ricky's caps on Project Runway, though I don't think we are in any danger of seeing Spike cry. That leads me to another question: Why do designers cry so much more than cooks?

Lost

What does everyone think about Lost?

I really think its been good this season. Back to the nameless dread of season one. Even the really sappy conversations between Jin and Sun this week didn't turn me off, they were always among my favorite characters so I have a high tolerance.

Puppy Bowl!

If you can't bear football, you might want to watch the Puppy Bowl instead.

We will be watching the Super Bowl in my house- go Big Blue. But I might record the Puppy Bowl for later viewing.

When will it end?

I know the writer's strike has been going on too long when I start watching the red carpet interviews before the SAG awards.
