Walkability

A coworker just told me about a website that gives you the walk score of your neighborhood. You put in your address and then get a score from 1-100 on how walkable your neighborhood is. It takes how far grocery stores, restaurants, stores and parks are in relation to your house into account to determine your score.

I got a 65 which is somewhat walkable. For San Antonio and Texas in general I was happy with that. I know you New Yorkers will beat us all but I thought we could compare.

I got a 100--I live in a "Walker's Paradise." Weirdly, the example of an address was a block or two away from me. I think having to drive everywhere would be the hardest thing about moving away from NYC.

It is a cool site but it is definitely not calibrated properly. Mom's house got a score of 25 but my house in Port Isabel got a score of 9 despite being only a few blocks from the H.E.B. (grocery store) and nearer a lot more restaurants. Neither is particularly walkable but I would think the P.I. house would score higher.

I got 66 -- probably fair, bit I think Wash Park should have pulled the number a little higher
